My brother spent ten years writing an epic fantasy novel. I loved it. I did quite a bit of art for it over the years, and when he asked me for a series of sketches which could become a calendar, I was delighted to oblige.
This was a second attempt at using the techniques I used on the cover (#2 of the sketch series was modified from the cover of the book into a calendar page), I’ll let all of you judge to see if it was successful or not…
I think it ended up being darker, harsher, and… flame-y-er.
The point was, I was still trying (and succeeding) to learn how to properly use the blender brush tool in PSD. On the original cover piece, and I think #2 of the sketch series, I did this without smudging the highlights, and I think it adds a nice warping effect here.
I also knew how to keep tidier layers, cleaner layers, and just generally knew a lot more about what I was doing.
And let’s hear it once again for Pinterest reference images!! The archer came from Senshistock, a fantastic place with all of the poses a girl could ask for.
